The Dare County Department of Finance has been awarded the prestigious Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting – the highest form of recognition in government accounting and financial reporting – by the Government Finance Officers Association for the 30th year consecutive.

The Department of Finance received the award in recognition of its comprehensive Annual Financial Report (ACFR) for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2020. Dare County Board of Commissioners Chairman Bob Woodard presented the award to Chief Financial Officer of Dare County, David Clawson, at the Dare County Board of Commissioners Meeting held on Monday, August 2, 2021. Clawson also accepted a certificate on behalf of the Director of Support Finance, Sally DeFosse.

In 1945, the Government Finance Officers Association created the annual Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program to encourage local governments to take complex financial information and produce an annual report that is both accessible and easy to understand for all, even those who are unfamiliar. with finance.

Governments that are able to successfully meet the high standards of the program are subsequently recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association by being awarded the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting. Receiving this award represents a significant achievement by a government and its leadership, an achievement that the Dare County Department of Finance has achieved every year since David Clawson began serving as the county’s Chief Financial Officer there. is 30 years old.

“This is an incredible achievement that highlights the continued dedication that David and his staff show year after year,” said Woodard. “David’s leadership on Dare County financial matters is absolutely outstanding. No one knows the intricacies of county finances better than David. He knows the ins and outs of every aspect of Dare County finances, which is no small feat, and we really couldn’t ask for a more knowledgeable or experienced person to be our Chief Financial Officer. »

Chairman Woodard also recognized DeFosse’s contribution to the department and his role in producing another award-winning annual report for Dare County.

“In addition to his own incredible contributions to Dare County, David has also built an extremely talented team within our finance department,” he said. “Sally DeFosse is our Deputy CFO and is responsible for doing much of the hands-on budgeting and financial reporting work. I want to thank Sally for all of her hard work and dedication to Dare County.
