Emirates News Agency – Sharjah Department of Finance launches second round of ‘Sharjah Award for Public Finance’

SHARJAH, 11th August, 2022 (WAM) — The Board of the Sharjah Prize for Public Finance – the first of its kind in the Arab world – has announced the launch of the second round of the prize, hosted by the Sharjah Finance (SFD), in cooperation with the Arab Organization for Administrative Development.

It comes after the award was suspended for four years due to the exceptional circumstances of COVID-19. This year’s award includes 17 different institutional and individual categories, technical and organizational entry requirements and award nomination criteria.

The awards were announced during a press conference held by the board of directors in the presence of media professionals and partners in the theater hall at the SFD headquarters on Thursday, August 11, 2022. Salem Yousef Al Qaseer, chairman of the board of trustees; Dr. Nasser Al Hatlan Al Qahtani, Vice Chairman of the Board, Director General, Arab Organization for Administrative Development (ARADO); and Waleed Al Sayegh, Director General of the SFD and Member of the Prize Board, attended the press conference.

Al Qaseer expressed his pride in launching the new cycle of the award, which aims to strengthen and enable the success and sustainability of the financial sector in Arab countries by assessing the level of commitment to standards and requirements of excellence in the financial work of government by institutions and individuals.

He stressed that the objectives of the award are in line with the guidelines of the government of Sharjah under the leadership of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, to enable and combine efforts to develop individuals . skills, experiences, cultures and creative abilities by creating value in companies.

He added that this will lead to an economy that works to build an integrated nation with consciousness and knowledge to achieve sustainability and societal well-being.

Dr. Al Qahtani explained the role of the award in developing and improving public finance concepts in the Arab world, and in establishing policies and strategies related to public finance, praising Resolution No. (16 ) of the Sharjah Executive Council for 2022, regarding the formation of the Board of the Sharjah Award for Public Finance.

He expressed his appreciation for the reassignment of ARADO, in coordination with the SFD, to carry out the technical management tasks of the prize in its new session and to implement the marketing and promotion work throughout the Arab world. .

He also indicated that as part of the development plan for the award, the number of participation categories has increased to 17, including nine institutional categories and eight individual categories, with the expansion of the list of targeted candidates from Arab countries and institutions. , as well as the development of the conditions and standards of the allocation guide, to be more compatible with current financial and economic changes.

Sheikh Rashid bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Secretary General of Sharjah Public Finance Award, clarified the list of institutional categories under which participation and nomination can be made, which include Distinguished Public Finance Authority, Entity Distinguished Entity in Electronic Financial Systems and Applications, Distinguished Entity in Financial Project Management, Distinguished Entity in Financial Innovation, and Distinguished Entity in Cash and Sovereign Funds Management, Distinguished Authority in Financial Supervision, Audit and Risk Management, Distinguished Authority in Provision of Financial Services, Distinguished Authority in Financial Banking Services and Distinguished Authority in Pension/Social Security Fund Management .

At the individual category level, Sheikh Rashid mentioned that they are represented by Distinguished Arab Finance Director, Distinguished Arab Budget Director, Distinguished Arab Tax Director, Distinguished Arab Accounts Director, Distinguished Electronic Financial Systems Director Arabs, the Distinguished Director of Procurement and Contracts, the Distinguished Arab Financial Controller and the Distinguished Arab Financial Accountant.
