News of the OpenMRTD.org project
Second official librfid release
Today, the second official release of the
librfid project was made,
following-up the way too long time without any official releases.
I could have done this ages ago, but somehow I thought most people are using
svn trunk anyway.
First official librfid release
Today, the first official release of the
librfid project was made,
following-up 19 months of (low-priority, spare-time) development.
I could have done this ages ago, but I didn't want to publicize an official
release while the code was still a lot under flux. As of now, it seems to have
stabilized quite a bit.
OpenMRTD gets its counterpart: OpenPCD
For the past year, users have enjoyed the use of Free Software for accessing
RFID transponders and e-Passports using librfid and libmrtd.
Now, the person behind OpenMRTD was involved in building OpenPCD, a 100% free hardware and free software RFID
reader. OpenPCD is fully supported by librfid. Therefore the
combination of librfid and OpenPCD allows you to run a 100% Free host software
and Free firmware RFID solution, completely customizable and auditable.
Meanwhile, OpenMRTD is working on completing a first 0.1 release of librfid.
Current work is still mostly being done to stabilize the codebase, and to fix
the remaining bugs. Our next milestones are mainly getting OpenCT integration
for PC/SC and CT-API support.
Public announcement of the OpenMRTD project
Today, the OpenMRTD project publicly announces its existence.
The OpenMRTD project finally launches its own homepage. Harald Welte, the
foundr of the project, has been silently working on the code since May 2005,
without much public notice (apart from some articles on his blog).
Since some parts of the project now are reaching beta stage, and they
can actually be used for getting useful stuff done, the homepage should provide
some more exposure to the project.
