Finance Department Receives Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting

The Dare County Department of Finance was awarded the prestigious Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting – the highest form of recognition in government accounting and financial reporting – by the Government Finance Officers Association for the 31st consecutive year.

The Department of Finance received the award in recognition of its comprehensive annual financial report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2021. The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting program was established by the Government Finance Officers Association in 1945 to encourage state and local governments to go beyond minimum requirements by preparing a comprehensive, fully transparent annual financial report. and also embodies the spirit of full disclosure to the community it serves.

In order to qualify for the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, the Dare County Department of Finance is responsible for taking an assortment of complex financial information and turning it into a single, comprehensive document that citizens can not only to access but also to navigate and understand, regardless of their level of familiarity with financial concepts.
