KDH Finance Department Receives Excellence in Financial Reporting Award for 34th Consecutive Year
The Kill Devil Hills Finance Department is responsible for maintaining the financial integrity of the town and providing a wide range of financial support services. One of these responsibilities requires the department to prepare and present a complete set of financial statements annually, in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and government accounting standards to the North Carolina Commission on Local Government. The financial statements must be audited by an independent certified public accountant to ensure that the City’s financial statements are free from material misstatement.
The compiled statements enabled the city’s finance department to produce a comprehensive annual financial report (ACFR), for which Kill Devil Hills recently received the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting for the 34e consecutive year for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2021.
The award was presented by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. ACFR was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial history and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the field of government accounting and financial reporting, and earning it represents a significant achievement by a government and its management. Receiving this award was widely supported by the City’s Mayor and Board of Commissioners, who maintained high standards of professionalism in managing the City’s finances.
The Kill Devil Hills Finance Department continues to maintain a high priority on service delivery and the financial stability of our citizens and visitors.
