Seal Beach Hires New Finance Department Manager/Town Treasurer
Seal Beach on Monday, June 20, announced the recent selection of a new City Finance Department Director/Treasurer. Her name is Barbara Arenado.
She is expected to take up her new duties on July 1. City council is expected to consider the 2022-23 budget on June 27.
“It is an honor to join the town of Seal Beach and to be associated with this exceptional group of professionals,” said Arenado.
Arenado is a seasoned government professional with over 20 years of experience and comes to us with a solid knowledge of pensions, long-range planning, budgeting, policy and data analysis, and fiscal oversight. . She has spent the past 10 years with the City of Irvine in a variety of financial roles, including most recently as Assistant Director of Financial Management and Strategic Planning.
Arenado began his career working for Orange County, specializing in financial analysis and management. She has also worked in the private sector as an independent financial consultant for personal and business management.
In its previous agencies, Arenado set a record of success improving financial reporting, internal controls, and efficiency while emphasizing transparency, trust, and collaboration.
Arenado graduated from California State University, Fullerton with a degree in Business Administration/Accounting.
“I look forward to continuing the city’s excellent financial management and pursuing the goals of transparent financial reporting and long-term fiscal sustainability,” Arenado said.
At a June 1 town hall meeting at City Hall, Councilman/District 1 Mayor Joe Kalmick said the city has hired a new director of the finance department.
In a June 7 email, Deputy City Manager Patrick Gallegos confirmed that a new manager had been hired, but noted that the candidate was undergoing a background check.
Gallegos promised the city would issue a press release once the background check was completed.
