Weld County Department of Finance Wins 41st Government Finance Officers Association Award – Greeley Tribune

The Weld County Department of Finance and Administration accounting team has won an award for excellence in financial reporting for the 41st consecutive year.

According to a Weld County press release, for 41 consecutive years the team has received the Government Finance Officers Association’s Certificate of Excellence for Excellence in Financial Reporting. Created in 1945, the Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in government accounting and financial reporting.

This achievement also represents a significant achievement for a government agency. The award encourages governments to go beyond basic financial reporting standards and prepare comprehensive reports that include full disclosure.

To meet the eligibility criteria, the accounting department must ensure that Weld County’s comprehensive annual financial report is completed on time and meets Governmental Accounting Standards Board standards, according to the release.

The county’s annual report must include the county’s financial transaction results that are clear and accurate.

The Governmental Accounting Standards Board sets the standards that the report must meet, which may change each year. Therefore, the accounting departments must ensure that the annual report meets the requirements at all times.

“It’s amazing to see our finance department win this award year after year,” Weld County Chairman Scott James said in the statement. “It’s truly a testament to their stewardship in maintaining a document that showcases the fiscal responsibility of taxpayers’ money.”
